On October 26, 2014, 25-year-old Tajshon M. Sherman was found murdered on the east side of Indianapolis. Sherman's body was discovered by police near a light pole in an empty lot on Tudor Park Drive. The investigation revealed that Sherman had sustained significant head trauma and was shot at least once in the head. Although Sherman lived as a trans woman, the case was not initially treated as a hate crime, despite concerns from advocates and the LGBTQ+ community.
