In the early hours of a September morning in 2019, the life of 20-year-old Tatyana Ann Renee Sims was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire that ripped through her Indianapolis home. On that day, September 3rd, Sims was in her residence on Hovey Street when multiple rounds were fired into the house. She was fatally wounded, leaving behind a community of grieving family and friends who remembered her as a vibrant and loving mother.
Tragically, Tatyana's young daughter, Malajah, who
was just three years old at the time, was also struck by a bullet and injured in the attack. The child was rushed to the hospital with a graze wound and a skull fracture but was reported to be in stable condition. At the time of the shooting, Sims' boyfriend was also in the home but was not harmed. The incident left those who knew Tatyana struggling to understand who would perpetrate such a violent act against her and her child.
In the wake of the shooting, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation, collecting evidence from the scene, which was riddled with dozens of bullet casings from different firearms.
