In the spring of 2013, the life of a young man from Gary, Indiana, was cut short, leaving a family to mourn and a community to wonder. Tre Buggs, a 19-year-old Black male, passed away on May 5, 2013. A former student of Roosevelt High School, he was remembered by friends for his silly and laid-back personality.
Following his death, funeral services were held on May 11, 2013, at the New Mission of Jesus Christ in East Chicago.
He is survived by his mother, Talaya Buggs, his fathers, Kenneth Jones and Tony Clinton, and a large family including 15 siblings. In the months that followed, the city of Gary experienced a wave of violence, though no direct connections to Buggs's case have been publicly made.
Despite the passage of time, the circumstances surrounding Tre Buggs's death remain shrouded in mystery.
