On January 22, 2014, Sayyid Abdul-Haqq, a 15-year-old Black male from Speedway, Indiana, was killed in a shooting incident that shook the local community. A student at Speedway High School known for his gentle nature and bright personality, Sayyid was returning home on a cold winter evening, likely from the local public library or an after-school program. He was walking toward the apartment complex in the 2800 block of Embassy Row where he lived with his brother when the attack occurred.
