In the cold of early February 2022, a young man's life was abruptly ended in what has become a lingering mystery for the town of Speedway, Indiana. Tyler Futrell, a 22-year-old male, was shot and killed on the night of Tuesday, February 8, 2022, just a few days shy of what would have been his 23rd birthday. The shooting marked the first homicide of the year in Speedway, a community unaccustomed to such violence.
