In what was initially believed to be a drive-by shooting, the events of August 19, 1991, unfolded into a tragic ambush that claimed the life of a dedicated officer. On that day, 27-year-old Police Officer Christopher Bieker May of the Fulton County Police Department was responding to a call on River Valley Road in Sandy Springs, Georgia. A woman sitting in her yard had been shot by a neighbor with a high-powered rifle.
