In the early morning hours of May 24, 2014, what began as a weekend of festivities surrounding the Indianapolis 500 turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 25-year-old Max Levine of Kokomo, Indiana. The young man was with a group of friends in a grassy parking and camping area near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a place colloquially known as the 'Coke Lot,' when an argument broke out. The dispute escalated tragically, and Levine was fatally shot.
