In the winter of 2014, a tragic event unfolded inside a home on South Parker Avenue on the south side of Indianapolis, resulting in the death of 43-year-old Jacob Rodemich. On February 20th, Rodemich, along with three other individuals—Walter Burnell, 47, Kristy Mae Sanchez, 22, and Hayley Navarra, 21—were fatally shot during what authorities described as a robbery that turned into a quadruple murder.
The four deaths were part of a string of eight homicides that shocked the city within a 24-hour period.
The plan, according to investigators, was orchestrated by four individuals: Kenneth 'Cody' Rackemann, Anthony LaRussa, Valencia Williams, and Samantha Bradley. The group conspired to rob Walter Burnell, who was allegedly running a drug operation from the residence. LaRussa is believed to have set up the robbery, even concocting an alibi for Rackemann. The scheme took a violent turn when Rackemann entered the house and demanded money from a safe. When his demands were not met, he began shooting the four victims. After running out of ammunition, he called for Valencia Williams, who had been waiting in a car outside. She then entered the house and allegedly shot Hayley Navarro twice in the head.
The investigation led to the arrest of all four suspects. Kenneth 'Cody' Rackemann, after initially backing out of a plea deal, eventually pleaded guilty to the four murders and a robbery charge. He received four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, in addition to a 20-year sentence for robbery. Samantha Bradley also pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit robbery. The cases against Anthony LaRussa and Valencia Williams were still pending before the court. The incident stood as a stark reminder of the city's struggle with violent crime that year, which saw at least 26 homicides by that point.
