In a tragic turn of events on March 30, 2014, Ho Shin Lee, a 36-year-old male, lost his life in a violent confrontation at his workplace in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lee was an employee at the Body Gear clothing store, situated at the intersection of 38th Street and Emerson Avenue. On that fateful day, he courageously attempted to intervene in a shoplifting incident, a decision that would ultimately cost him his life.
The incident unfolded when several individuals attempted to steal
clothing from the store. Ho Shin Lee confronted the suspects, and in the ensuing struggle, he was shot multiple times. He was rushed to Eskenazi Health for medical attention but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The investigation that followed quickly led to the apprehension of two teenage suspects.
Authorities arrested 18-year-old Deaundre Graves and 17-year-old Jeffery Rhodes in connection with the fatal shooting. Despite his age, Rhodes was charged as an adult. Both teenagers faced serious charges, including murder and robbery. During the investigation, it was determined that Graves was the individual who fired the weapon. Shortly after the incident, Graves was found near the store, having discarded the stolen merchandise and a chrome. 22 caliber handgun. Rhodes was also apprehended in a nearby parking lot while still in possession of stolen items.
Following their arrests, both Graves and Rhodes were held without bond in the Marion County Jail. Court proceedings commenced, and one of the suspects ultimately received a 60-year prison sentence for his role in the murder of Ho Shin Lee.
