On September 9, 2017, Geordyn A. Owens, an 18-year-old from Indianapolis, was fatally shot on the city's west side. The incident occurred in the 4100 block of Vinewood Avenue, just after 9 p.m. Police responded to reports of gunfire and found Owens at the scene. He had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
