Kelvin Campbell Jr., a 26-year-old man from East Chicago, Indiana, was found lying in the darkness of the 36100 block of Orchard Drive in Hammond in the early morning hours of May 13, 2014, after neighbors reported gunfire to police. Officers who responded around 2 a.m. discovered him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the violence abrupt and concentrated, giving little indication of what kind of confrontation had unfolded in the quiet residential area before he collapsed.
