In the late hours of September 8, 2016, a tragic event unfolded in the parking lot of the Lynn Wood Village Apartments in Anderson, Indiana, that would ultimately claim the life of Jeremy Silvey. Silvey, a 35-year-old male, was discovered in the driver's seat of his girlfriend's car with a gunshot wound to his head. Emergency services responded to the scene, and he was transported to a hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Jeremy Silvey succumbed to his injuries and passed away the following day, on September 9, 2016.
The Anderson Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into Silvey's death. Their inquiries led them to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. This individual was 26-year-old Nicolas S. Gray, a resident of Anderson. Investigators determined that the shooting occurred during a drug transaction. On Wednesday, following the discovery of Silvey, police located and arrested Gray at his home without incident.
Following his arrest, Nicolas S. Gray was formally charged with the murder of Jeremy Silvey. The legal proceedings against him moved forward, culminating in a jury trial. In October, the jury found Gray guilty of murder, as well as obstruction of justice and attempted dealing in marijuana. The court, presided over by Madison Circuit Court I Judge Angela Warner Sims, handed down a sentence in November 2018. Citing Gray's extensive criminal history as an aggravating factor, the judge sentenced him to 98 years in prison for his role in the death of Jeremy Silvey. Following the conviction and sentencing, Gray's legal counsel indicated an intention to appeal the court's decision.
