Landon Patrick Hill Jr., a 24-year-old Black man, tragically lost his life on the morning of June 19, 2022, in his hometown of Anderson, Indiana. His death was the result of a shooting that occurred near 16th Street and Madison Avenue on the city's west side. On that day, Hill was one of five individuals shot in two separate incidents in Anderson, and he was the only one who did not survive.
Remembered for his sense of humor and infectious smile, Hill was a 2016 graduate of Anderson High
School and worked for the City of Anderson as a sign engineer. His passing left his family and the community in deep mourning, prompting calls for an end to gun violence.
The investigation into the shooting identified Devin Xavier Myers, a man from Muncie, as the person responsible for Hill's death. However, the Madison County Prosecutor, Rodney Cummings, later announced that Myers would not face charges in connection with Hill's death. The prosecutor's office determined that Myers had acted in self-defense. At the time, Myers was facing multiple murder charges for other alleged crimes in Muncie.
In the wake of this tragedy, Landon Hill's family, alongside community organizations such as Cease Fire Indy and The Village Project, have continued to seek justice and raise awareness about the devastating impact of gun violence. Their efforts aim to honor his memory and prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
