In the early spring of 2017, the life of 15-year-old Kamilion Jenkins was tragically cut short in Michigan City, Indiana. Known affectionately as 'Milly,' she was a freshman at Westville High School, where she was remembered for her bright smile, outgoing personality, and skills on the basketball court.
On the evening of Tuesday, March 28, 2017, Kamilion was a passenger in a car with two adults and a baby.
As the vehicle neared the intersection of Grace and Holiday Streets, an unknown assailant opened fire on them. In the chaotic moments that followed, the driver of the car sped to the Michigan City Police Department parking lot, desperately seeking help for the wounded. Despite the immediate medical attention from officers, Kamilion succumbed to her injuries and died in the very place they had fled to for safety. A 28-year-old woman in the car was also injured in the shooting but survived.

Friends and family gathered to remember the girl who loved to sing, dance, and play basketball, describing her as a joyful person with a heart of gold who never had a problem with anyone.
