In the early morning hours of a Sunday in Michigan City, Indiana, the life of 25-year-old Kylie McKee was tragically cut short. On July 17, 2022, at approximately 1:50 a.m., police responded to calls of shots fired near the intersection of Springland Avenue and Roeske Avenue. Arriving at the scene, they discovered a vehicle that had gone off the road.
Inside, in the driver's seat, they found an unresponsive woman who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of the officers at the scene, the young woman, identified as Kylie McKee, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at Franciscan Health Michigan City. The incident quickly turned into a homicide investigation as detectives from the Michigan City Police Department began to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
The investigation led police to identify a person of interest. A few days later, on a Wednesday, the case was presented to a judge who found probable cause to issue an arrest warrant for Robert Dervate Curry, a 25-year-old resident of Michigan City. Curry was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of Kylie McKee.
Following his arrest, Robert Dervate Curry was held at the LaPorte County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond. His initial appearance in court was scheduled for July 26. The community was left to mourn the loss of Kylie, a graduate of Crown Point High School's class of 2015 and an employee at Zorn Brew Works, Co. in Michigan City, who was remembered for her love of spending time with her family and friends.
