In the spring of 2017, the life of 37-year-old Trymaine 'Antoino' Lewis was cut short in an act of gun violence in Indianapolis, Indiana. On the evening of Saturday, May 13, 2017, Lewis was at a liquor store on the city's east side, near the intersection of 17th Street and Roosevelt Avenue, when he was shot multiple times. First responders arrived to find him in critical condition and transported him to IU Health-Methodist Hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Trymaine Lewis succumbed to his injuries during surgery.
Born on June 7, 1979, in Indianapolis, Lewis was a father to five children. He had graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and was employed at McFarland Foods. He was known for his love of cooking, spending time with friends, and making people laugh with his 'live' videos. His death left behind his fiancée, children, mother, and brothers.
In the days following the shooting, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department investigated the homicide. Their efforts led to a breakthrough with the arrest of 21-year-old Robert Ray in connection with the fatal shooting. The arrest brought a measure of progress in a case that had suddenly and violently ended a man's life, leaving a family to grieve their loss.
