In the summer of 2015, a life was tragically cut short on the near west side of Indianapolis. Derrick Lamont Myers, a 39-year-old man, was found inside a vehicle on the afternoon of Saturday, August 1, in the 700 block of Lynn Street. He had been shot multiple times in his chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations into the incident revealed that just before the fatal shooting, Myers had been involved in an altercation with two other men.
In the immediate aftermath, these two individuals were seen fleeing the area in an SUV-type vehicle, leaving behind a scene of violence that stunned the local community. Detectives began interviewing witnesses, trying to piece together the events that led to the deadly confrontation.
In the days following the shooting, police appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the whereabouts of the two men who had fled the scene. However, despite their efforts and the witness accounts of the preceding fight, no arrests were immediately made in connection with the death of Derrick Myers. The case remained an active investigation as family and friends mourned the loss of a man whose life was taken in a moment of violence. As of late 2025, there have been no subsequent reports of arrests or the identification of any suspects in the murder of Derrick Myers.
