In the spring of 2021, a burst of gunfire on an Indianapolis afternoon shattered the peace and ended the life of 34-year-old Clarence January. On April 19th, January was sitting in a car in the 3700 block of Baltimore Avenue with 35-year-old Savage Trent Jones. It was around 2:15 p.m. when another vehicle reportedly pulled alongside them.
Without warning, an occupant in the approaching car opened fire, riddling January and Jones' vehicle with bullets.
The assailant's car then sped away, leaving a scene of devastation behind. When police and emergency responders arrived, they found both men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he too succumbed to his injuries.
The brazen daylight shooting prompted an immediate and intensive investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Detectives canvassed the neighborhood, seeking witnesses and any information that might lead to the person or persons responsible for the double homicide. Despite their efforts and pleas to the public for assistance, the case grew cold.
