In the summer of 2017, the life of Mark Anthony Bailey Jr., a 33-year-old Black male from Indianapolis, Indiana, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 23rd, Bailey was walking in an apartment complex at 8700 Rue Riviera in Lawrence when he was fatally shot multiple times. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
At the time, this incident marked the first homicide investigation of the year for the Lawrence Police Department.
Witnesses at the scene described the assailant as an unidentified man with long hair that was possibly in braids or dreadlocks. He was reportedly wearing a white shirt and khaki shorts. According to accounts, the suspect approached Bailey and fired several shots, striking him twice in the back, before fleeing the area on foot. He was not seen entering a vehicle. Despite the initial investigation and a plea to the public for information, there have been no publicly announced arrests in connection with the murder of Mark Bailey Jr. The case remains unsolved, and the suspect has not been identified or apprehended.
Mark Bailey Jr. was born on May 11, 1984, in Indianapolis and was a father and husband. He had graduated from Lincoln Tech and was remembered by his family as a fun-loving and protective individual who enjoyed fashion and spending time with his loved ones. His unexpected death left a significant void in the lives of his wife, children, and extended family.
