In a tragic turn of events on a Wednesday afternoon in Indianapolis, Phyllis Ann Anderson, a 64-year-old female, lost her life in a fatal shooting. The incident occurred on September 20, 2017, inside her apartment at the Arlington Green complex, situated in the 6000 block of East 21st Street. Known as a beautiful and beloved woman by her family, Phyllis was a caring individual who lived alone but dedicatedly looked after her own 92-year-old mother residing in an adjacent apartment.
Her sudden and violent death sent shockwaves through her family, who were left grappling with the devastating loss.
The sole suspect in the shooting was identified as Phyllis Anderson's own granddaughter, 22-year-old Kaycee Anderson. According to police, the shooting is believed to have stemmed from a family dispute that had occurred earlier. In the hours following the incident, law enforcement initiated a search for Kaycee, who had fled the scene in a silver Chevy Cobalt. Their search concluded approximately three hours later when she was taken into custody near 56th Street and Post Road in the Fort Benjamin Harrison area of Lawrence.
Phyllis Anderson was remembered as a devoted family woman whose greatest joy was being a homemaker and cherishing the fellowship of her relatives. She had a passion for singing and enjoyed playing bingo in her leisure time. A graduate of Crispus Attucks High School, she had worked as a substitute teacher for the Indianapolis Public School System after receiving her certifications from Lockyear College. Her nephew, Charles Anderson, expressed the family's profound grief and disbelief, stating, 'She was a beautiful woman... She's going to be greatly missed. It still hasn't sunk in. It just hurts for something like this to happen.' The family was left to mourn a life cut short while trying to comprehend the circumstances that led to such a tragic outcome.
