her family and friends without answers. The last time she had been seen or heard from by loved ones was on February 3, 2017, ten days before her body was found. Despite public pleas for information by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, including a video highlighting her case, no significant leads emerged, and the case remained one of the city's unsolved homicides.
A break in the case finally came in July 2019 when a witness, while being interviewed for an unrelated matter, provided a crucial tip. This information pointed investigators toward a man named Riki Eaton. Over the following months and years, more witnesses came forward, corroborating the initial tip and telling police that Eaton had admitted to killing Boltinghouse. Some witnesses also stated that Eaton had threatened their lives if they were to speak with law enforcement. According to investigators, the motive for the murder was believed to be Boltinghouse having allegedly stolen some tools from Eaton, and his fear that she was cooperating with police regarding other criminal activity.
In August 2021, more than four years after Jenny Boltinghouse's death, Riki Eaton was arrested and charged with her murder. Cell phone data from the time of the killing reportedly placed Eaton's phone near the location where her body was discovered. In April 2024, Riki Eaton was convicted for the murder of Jenny Boltinghouse, bringing a long-awaited sense of justice to her family and closing a case that had remained a painful mystery for years.
