In the early morning hours of March 2, 2018, a violent incident unfolded in a residential neighborhood on the near west side of Indianapolis, Indiana. Joshua Tye, a 21-year-old White male known to friends and family as "TyeBoy" or "Bubba," was found suffering from a fatal gunshot wound inside a home on the 800 block of Birch Avenue. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene around 5:49 a.m.
following reports of a person shot.
Upon their arrival, first responders located Tye critically injured from the gunfire. Despite immediate medical attention provided at the scene, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medics shortly thereafter. The residence was secured as homicide detectives and the Marion County Forensic Services Agency arrived to canvas the area for witnesses and collect potential forensic evidence to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.
During the initial investigation at the property, officers encountered an adult female, identified as Marissa Huffman, who was also present at the scene. Detectives detained Huffman for questioning regarding her involvement in the death. Following an interview with homicide investigators, Huffman was arrested and preliminarily charged with murder in connection with Tye's death. The case was subsequently referred to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office to determine the final formal charges.
