In the early morning hours of May 26, 2018, a domestic dispute at the Landmark Apartments and Townhomes in Indianapolis turned fatal, claiming the life of 61-year-old Monica Perkins. The female victim was discovered by police officers who were dispatched to the residence following a report of a shooting. They found her with multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders rushed Perkins to St. Vincent Hospital, but her injuries proved to be too severe, and she was pronounced dead.
The ensuing investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department quickly led them to a primary suspect: Monica's 63-year-old husband, Alvin Perkins. He was taken into custody and subsequently charged with the murder of his wife.
During the investigation, Alvin Perkins admitted to shooting his wife. He claimed that the shooting occurred during an altercation in which she had attempted to strike him with a lamp. He stated that he fired the weapon in an attempt to shoot the lamp out of her hand.
Alvin Perkins' case went to trial, and after a two-day proceeding, a jury found him guilty of murder. Court records revealed that Monica Perkins had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, with two of them to her chest being fatal. On September 4, 2019, Alvin Perkins was sentenced to 45 years in the Department of Correction for the murder of his wife.
