In the late summer of 2018, the life of Jason Lewis, a 27-year-old Black/African American male, was tragically cut short in Richmond, Indiana. On the morning of August 2nd, his body was discovered in the parking lot of the Genesis Apartments, the victim of multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses later recounted a harrowing scene, stating that an assailant had chased Lewis before shooting him repeatedly.
A subsequent pathological examination confirmed the brutal nature of the attack, revealing at least four fatal wounds to his torso, in addition to multiple gunshots to his head and face.
The investigation into the violent death of Jason Lewis led authorities to Michael Rashuan Carr. Carr was arrested and ultimately charged with the murder. During the ensuing legal proceedings, a motive for the killing began to surface. It was believed that Carr suspected Lewis of cooperating with law enforcement in a previous investigation that had resulted in Carr's conviction on drug-related charges in 2013, a conviction that had led to a five-year prison sentence.
The trial brought to light further disturbing details, including Carr's attempts to thwart the judicial process from behind bars. Evidence was presented that Carr had offered a man $10,000 to kill five individuals who were likely to be called as prosecution witnesses.
