In the evening hours of September 20, 2018, the life of 19-year-old Nathan Burnett was tragically cut short in Indianapolis, Indiana. A young Black man, Burnett was found by officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department at the intersection of East 10th and North Oxford streets after they responded to reports of gunfire in the area. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services rushed Burnett to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital, but his injuries proved
to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead in the emergency room. The Marion County Coroner's Office later identified him as Nathan Williams, though the reason for the name discrepancy was not immediately clear.
In the wake of the shooting, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into Burnett's death. In an effort to gather more information, authorities released photographs of potential witnesses to the public, seeking their assistance in identifying the individuals. Despite these efforts and a public plea for information, the case has grown cold.
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Nathan Burnett, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains ongoing as his family and community continue to await answers and seek justice for his untimely death.
