In the early morning hours of Saturday, January 3, 2026, the life of 20-year-old Brayan Munoz Romero, a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire on the east side of Indianapolis. The incident, which unfolded just before 7 a.m. at the Hawthorne Apartments, also claimed the life of 17-year-old Christian Maradiagas Gonzalez and left two other individuals, an adult and a juvenile, in critical but stable condition.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were
dispatched to the 5300 block of East 32nd Street after receiving a report of a person shot. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene. Inside a stolen vehicle, they found the bodies of Munoz Romero and Gonzalez, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. The two other victims were located outside of the vehicle and were immediately transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active investigation by IMPD homicide detectives. A key point of inquiry for the authorities is the fact that the victims were found in a stolen vehicle, and they are working to determine what led to the four individuals being at that location on that morning. Police have described the event as "senseless and avoidable" and have urged the community for assistance.
As the investigation continues, authorities have not released any information regarding potential suspects or a motive for the shooting. They are pleading with the public for any information that might lead to an arrest, asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the IMPD Homicide Office or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. In the meantime, the families and friends of Brayan Munoz Romero and Christian Maradiagas Gonzalez are left to mourn their sudden and violent loss. Funeral services for Brayan Munoz Romero were scheduled for the following week.
