In the fading light of a November afternoon, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of a Fort Wayne neighborhood, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. Truvarus L. Giddens Jr., a 22-year-old male, was found shot inside a residence on the 2500 block of Barr Street on Sunday, November 11, 2018. The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 3:55 p.m. and discovered Giddens inside the home.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Allen County Coroner's Office later confirmed that Giddens' death was a homicide caused by gunshot wounds. Investigators believe the shooting did not occur inside the house where he was found. Evidence, including several shell casings, was discovered in an alley to the north of the residence. Authorities theorize that the shooting took place in the alley and that Giddens, after being wounded, made his way into the nearby house. The building itself bore the marks of the violent encounter, with multiple gunshot holes visible. His death marked the 39th homicide in Allen County for that year.
In the days following the shooting, the Fort Wayne Police Department, along with the Allen County Prosecutor's Office and the Coroner's Office, continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding Giddens' death. Authorities appealed to the public for assistance, asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or had any information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers. However, despite the ongoing investigation, no suspects were publicly identified, and no arrests were announced in connection with the murder of Truvarus Giddens. The case, like the lingering questions for his family and community, remains unresolved.
