Jerimiah Milsap, a 24-year-old decorated Navy veteran, was shot and killed on July 6, 2013, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident occurred during a family gathering for the Fourth of July weekend in the Near West Side neighborhood. The gathering, which was supposed to be a joyful event, quickly turned tragic when a group of men approached Milsap's family and opened fire around 3 a.m. Despite the attempts of Milsap's sister to plead for their lives, the attackers showed no mercy, ultimately shooting Milsap in the abdomen and injuring his brother-in-law, Robert Williams, who was shot in the arm and torso.
Milsap was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital that morning.
