In the summer of 2013, the life of 21-year-old Dashawn Jermell Martin, a Black male from Fort Wayne, Indiana, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 31st, police were called to the Brookmill Court Apartments in the 2700 block of Millbrook Drive. There, they discovered a violent scene where two men had lost their lives and a woman was injured.
Dashawn Martin had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Alongside him, 26-year-old Sidney Earl Gates was also found deceased, having died from stab wounds. A woman who was in a neighboring apartment was also wounded by the gunfire. Both Martin and Gates were transported to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead. Investigators believed the homicides were drug-related and discovered narcotics at the scene. It was reported that both victims had recently been released from prison.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, Fort Wayne police detectives began an investigation. A man was seen running from the apartment complex around the time of the killings, but his identity and role in the events remained under investigation. Despite the initial leads, the case grew cold. There is no publicly available information to suggest that any suspects were ever identified, arrested, or charged in connection with the murders of Dashawn Martin and Sidney Gates. The case remains an unsolved double homicide, leaving their families and the community without answers or justice for their deaths.
