On the evening of March 3, 2024, police officers in Fort Wayne, Indiana, responded to reports of a shooting in the 5000 block of Roberta Drive. Upon arriving at the scene shortly after 9:20 p.m., first responders discovered David Lee Norris, a 64-year-old Black male, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office later determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the chest and ruled the manner of death a homicide.
In addition to Norris, officers located a female victim at the residence who had also been shot. She was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment, where her condition was determined to be non-life-threatening. The incident was investigated as a double shooting by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor's Office, and the coroner.
Following an investigation by homicide detectives, authorities arrested 66-year-old Kenneth Ray Hogan Jr. in connection with the violence. Hogan was charged with murder and aggravated battery. According to court documents and police reports, Hogan claimed during interviews that he was upset because he believed he had been 'set up,' which allegedly precipitated the deadly encounter.
