In the early morning hours of December 23, 2017, the life of 18-year-old Delonte Corvon Walker Ross, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Gunshots echoed on Oxford Street, prompting a police response to a home around 3:20 a.m. Inside, officers discovered a grim scene: Walker Ross was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Another individual was also found at the residence with critical injuries.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Delonte was pronounced dead at the scene. The Allen County Coroner's Office would later confirm that he died from his gunshot wounds and officially ruled his death a homicide. His passing marked the 40th homicide in Allen County for that year. The violent weekend in Fort Wayne also saw the death of another man in a separate shooting, though police stated the two incidents did not appear to be related.
In the wake of the shooting, an investigation into Delonte's death was launched. However, as of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The case remains an open investigation, with law enforcement authorities continuing to seek leads to identify the person or persons responsible for this violent act. The community and his family are left waiting for justice to be served.
