In the late morning of a Sunday in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, ending the life of 44-year-old Montreale Cornelius Turner. On November 27, 2022, just before noon, police responded to a call about a shooting in the 1000 block of Rockhill Street. Upon arrival, they found Turner suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency responders transported Turner to a local hospital in life-threatening condition, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Allen County Coroner's Office later confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound and ruled the manner of death a homicide. Turner, a Black male, was a father who was known for his love of cooking, barbecuing, and sports, especially basketball. He was remembered as a big, gregarious guy who had relocated to Fort Wayne from Miami, Florida, where he was born and raised.
The investigation into the shooting quickly progressed. A few days later, on November 30, 2022, authorities made an arrest in connection with Turner's death. An 18-year-old, Kyree Warren, was arrested without incident in the lobby of the police station. Warren faced a preliminary charge of murder for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting. Court documents later revealed that the suspect had allegedly shot his stepfather during the domestic dispute. The case was investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor's Office, and the Allen County Coroner's Office.
