In the late hours of a Monday evening in Fort Wayne, Indiana, tragedy struck 51-year-old Hector Sustaita. On May 31, 2016, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Sustaita was shot on Brooklyn Avenue. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The Allen County Coroner's Office later ruled his death a homicide caused by gunshot wounds.
The violent encounter also left a woman injured.
Investigators determined that a man had approached the residence, opened fire on both Sustaita and the woman, and then fled the scene on foot. The ensuing investigation quickly pointed towards a suspect. Police were able to track a vehicle matching the description of one seen at the location of the shooting.
The search for the gunman ended at a nearby home. Inside, authorities found the man they believed to be responsible for the death of Hector Sustaita and the injury of the woman. The suspect was deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Further investigation revealed that the shooter had a prior relationship with the female victim. It is believed he was her ex-boyfriend. Due to the death of the sole suspect, no arrests were made in connection with Hector Sustaita's murder.
