Catherine Ann Hammel, a 28-year-old woman, was last seen on March 23, 1998, in Houston, Texas. She was dropped off at her apartment on Wilcrest by a co-worker after finishing her shift at 24-Hour Fitness. Around an hour later, her boyfriend, who was also the father of her young daughter, saw her at home. When he returned to the apartment at 6:00 p.m., Catherine was gone and has not been seen since.
Catherine was wearing a purple 24-Hour Fitness t-shirt, gym shorts, and white sneakers at the time of her disappearance. Known for being a dedicated mother, it was highly uncharacteristic of her to leave without contacting anyone, particularly her daughter. Although authorities initially treated her case as a missing person investigation, it later shifted to a potential homicide case when they suspected foul play, believing she may have been harmed and her body disposed of in a dumpster.
