On a cold December evening in Indianapolis, Indiana, a violent altercation shattered the peace within the Williamsburg East Apartments. On December 2, 2018, 36-year-old Tyreece Duane Alexander, a Black male, was inside one of the apartments near 46th and Arlington when a heated dispute among a group of men escalated with tragic consequences. Gunfire erupted, and in the chaos, Alexander was struck.
He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, his life cut short in the violent encounter.
The tragedy was compounded by the presence of Alexander's 7-year-old son, who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Miraculously, the young boy managed to escape the gunfire unharmed and was later placed in the care of family members. Another man was also shot during the incident and was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting.
In the years that have followed, the investigation into Tyreece Duane Alexander's death has remained active.
