In a quiet neighborhood on the west side of Indianapolis, the sound of gunshots shattered the calm just before noon on March 25, 2019. Quran Isaiah McCoy, a 22-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in the area of 10th Street and Girls School Road. Following the shooting, McCoy was seen by residents running through front yards, desperately knocking on doors and pleading for help.
One neighbor witnessed McCoy knocking on the door of a vacant house before he collapsed in the yard of another
home. Despite the efforts of those who came to his aid and his transportation to a nearby hospital, McCoy succumbed to his injuries. His death marked the fourth homicide in the area west of Interstate 465 in the first three months of 2019, a concerning statistic for a community that had experienced relatively low crime rates.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into McCoy's death. Law enforcement officials urged anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers. However, despite their investigative efforts and public appeals for assistance, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Quran McCoy. The case remains open, and at this time, there are no publicly identified suspects. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and a motive have not been released by authorities as the investigation continues.
