In the early evening of May 20, 2017, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet of a West Washington Street AutoZone parking lot in Indianapolis, leaving a young man's life cut tragically short. Zickey T. Self, a 21-year-old male, was found with at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services who had responded to reports of shots fired just after 7 p.m.
The incident was quickly determined to be a homicide, prompting an investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
Detectives at the scene began canvassing the area for witnesses and collecting forensic evidence, working to piece together the events that led to Self's death.
