Jacque Marquis Anderson, a 28-year-old Black male resident of East Chicago, Indiana, was known by those close to him as a warm and outgoing individual who possessed a passion for dancing. A graduate of Lew Wallace High School, he had built a life for himself in his community, working as a grill manager at a local McDonald's. Friends and family remembered him as a respectful man who avoided conflict, often describing him as someone who "wouldn't hurt a fly."
He was also the father of one child, a role that was central to his life before it was abruptly ended.
On the night of July 6, 2019, the quiet of the evening was shattered when Anderson became the victim of a violent crime. Police officers in East Chicago responded to a distress call at a gas station within the city limits, where they discovered Anderson suffering from a severe gunshot wound to his chest. Despite the immediate response of law enforcement and emergency medical personnel, the injuries he sustained proved to be fatal. He was pronounced deceased following the discovery, leaving investigators to piece together the events that led to the shooting at the commercial establishment.
