In the early morning hours of August 11, 2019, the life of 36-year-old Mutee Pedro Burnett, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Kokomo, Indiana. At approximately 4:21 a.m., Kokomo Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of West Elm Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Burnett lying in the roadway with what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident, which unfolded near the Tom Thumb Tavern, also resulted in injuries to two women. Angela Burnett, 43, suffered a gunshot wound to her foot, while 28-year-old Desiree James was shot in the lower leg. Both women were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined that a number of people were present at the time of the shooting and have appealed to the public for information. Despite the presence of potential witnesses, law enforcement has not publicly identified any suspects in connection with Burnett's death, and no arrests have been made. The investigation into the homicide is ongoing as authorities continue to seek leads that could bring resolution to the case.
