In the early afternoon of October 23, 2016, a life was tragically cut short in Kokomo, Indiana. Lamarcus McGraw, a 17-year-old male, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in an alley behind a Village Pantry on West Jefferson Street. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving a community to grapple with the sudden violence that had erupted in broad daylight.
Investigators believe the fatal encounter stemmed from a drug deal that had taken a wrong turn.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement acted swiftly. A suspect was seen fleeing the area, and officers were able to locate and apprehend him a few blocks away. The individual taken into custody was 21-year-old Kaliel Rucker, also of Kokomo. Upon his arrest, Rucker was reportedly found in possession of a handgun and admitted to shooting McGraw. A second handgun was also discovered at the scene of the shooting.
The investigation led to the identification of a second individual involved in the incident. A 15-year-old was also taken into custody in connection with the events that led to McGraw's death. As the legal process began to unfold, charges were filed against both suspects. Kaliel Rucker faced a murder charge, as well as charges for possession of marijuana and dealing marijuana. The 15-year-old accomplice was charged with attempted robbery, possession of marijuana, and dealing marijuana.
