In the late hours of a Friday evening in Marion, Indiana, the life of 18-year-old Enrique Alcorta was tragically cut short. On September 6, 2019, shots rang out in a parking lot on West 30th Street, prompting a swift response from the Marion Police Department. Arriving at the scene at approximately 10:24 p.m., officers discovered Enrique lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Emergency medical personnel quickly transported the young man to Marion General Hospital.
Despite their life-saving efforts, Enrique Alcorta succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 11:13 p.m. Enrique, a senior at Marion High School, was remembered as a loving, kind, and generous individual who was full of life. He enjoyed listening to hip hop and upbeat music, fishing, gaming, and playing soccer. His sudden death left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who recalled him as a respectful, funny, and outgoing person with a kind soul.
The investigation into Enrique's death quickly led police to a person of interest. The following day, on September 7, 2019, Jomar Xavier Worthy, a 35-year-old man, was taken into custody for questioning. After providing detectives with information about the shooting, Worthy was arrested and faced a preliminary charge of murder. He was subsequently booked into the Grant County Jail.
