In a tragic turn of events that unfolded in Marion, Indiana, a 56-year-old White male, Larry D. Jones Jr., lost his life in what was determined to be a violent homicide. On Monday, June 19, 2023, Jones was found deceased in the 2700 block of Avon Avenue. An investigation into his death revealed that he had been stabbed multiple times and had also suffered from blunt force trauma.
The incident, which was initially reported as being due to gun violence, sent shockwaves through the community.
Larry, who was born in Marion on March 27, 1967, to Larry and Josephine “Jody” Jones, was a familiar face to many in the area. His sudden and violent death left his family and friends in mourning. He is survived by his mother, Josephine “Jody” Jones, and his sister, Tonja White.
The investigation into the murder of Larry D. Jones Jr. led to the arrest of a Marion woman, Kourtney N. Thompson, who was 28 years old at the time. Thompson was subsequently charged in connection with the murder and a related robbery. In the ensuing legal proceedings in Grant Superior Court I, she was convicted for her role in the crimes.
On May 7 of the following year, Kourtney N. Thompson was sentenced for the murder of Larry D. Jones Jr. She received a 50-year prison sentence for the murder charge, with five of those years suspended to be served on probation. In addition to the murder sentence, Thompson was also given a 15-year sentence for a charge of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. This sentence is set to be served concurrently with her murder sentence. Following the sentencing, Grant County Sheriff Del Garcia expressed that 'These acts of senseless violence are heartbreaking for families on both sides. We remain committed to pursuing justice and supporting victims and their loved ones'.
