Contrell Jackson, a 35-year-old Black/African American man from Marion, Indiana, was known to loved ones as "Hotman." A comment left on a memorial page remembered him as a beloved uncle whose life was tragically cut short in the late summer of 2023.
On the evening of August 22, authorities were called to the 1500 block of South Miller Avenue in Marion. They discovered Contrell lying in the roadway, where he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An examination determined he had died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The Marion Police Department launched an investigation that soon grew to include the Indiana State Police and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department's Violent Crimes Task Force. The joint effort led investigators to a residence on Ethel Avenue in Indianapolis. There, they arrested three men: 31-year-old Shaun Harden, 18-year-old Da'von Bynum, and 18-year-old Dejuan Martin, all of Indianapolis. Police also recovered illegal narcotics and firearms at the scene. The men were transported to Grant County and faced preliminary charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Shaun Harden was later tried for the murder of Contrell Jackson. A Grant County jury found him guilty, and he was subsequently sentenced to serve between 90 and 95 years in prison for the crime.
