On the morning of November 30, 2025, a tragic incident occurred at Marion General Hospital in Marion, Indiana, involving a member of the facility's own law enforcement team. Around 6:00 a.m., first responders from the Marion City Police Department, the Grant County Sheriff's Office, and the Indiana State Police were dispatched to the hospital following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ronnell J.
Johnson, a 25-year-old male who served as a Marion Health Police Officer, suffering from a severe gunshot wound. The scene was secured as medical personnel immediately attempted to administer life-saving aid to their colleague.
Johnson, a former member of the United States Army who had served with the 1st Platoon Raiders before his medical discharge, had recently graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. On this particular Sunday, investigators determined that he was handling a personally owned handgun, which was not his department-issued service weapon, when the firearm accidentally discharged. The bullet struck Johnson, inflicting fatal injuries. Despite the swift intervention of the medical staff on site, he was unable to be revived and was pronounced dead by the Grant County Coroner's Office shortly after the incident.
