On a summer afternoon in Indianapolis, Indiana, 16-year-old Ameir Ford, a Black male, was fatally shot on August 23, 2020. The incident occurred just after 12:40 p.m. at the Washington Pointe Apartments on Belhaven Drive, located on the city's far east side. Ford was walking back to the apartment he shared with his mother and siblings when an assailant or assailants inside a Chevy Trailblazer that had been circling the parking lot opened fire.

Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered Ford with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. A second individual was also shot during the incident but was treated at the scene for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
