In the early morning hours of Halloween 2021, Jalen Phillip Chatmon, a 28-year-old male, was shot on the near northeast side of Indianapolis. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a person shot in the 3200 block of Hovey Street shortly before 2 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Chatmon suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital in critical condition, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The investigation into Chatmon's death was classified as a homicide, marking the 232nd such case in Indianapolis for that year. Despite the efforts of the IMPD Homicide Office, no information regarding a potential suspect or the circumstances that led to the shooting has been released to the public. The case remains open as investigators continue to seek leads and have urged anyone with information to come forward. Detective Christopher Winter was assigned to the case, and tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
