In the late summer of 2021, the life of Charles A. Allen III, a 45-year-old Black male from Indianapolis, was tragically cut short. On the evening of Tuesday, August 17, violence erupted in the 3800 block of West Michigan Street on the city's west side. It was here that Allen was found suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency services responded to reports of a shooting, but despite their efforts, Allen's injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Marion County Coroner's Office would later confirm his identity. In the days that followed, family and friends gathered to mourn his passing, with a funeral service held on August 30, 2021, before he was laid to rest at Sutherland Park Cemetery.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department opened a homicide investigation into the shooting death of Charles Allen. However, the case has remained unsolved. To date, no arrests have been made, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the killing. The investigation remains ongoing, and the motive behind the shooting has not been released. Police have encouraged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
