In the spring of 2005, the life of 19-year-old Demetris Dewayne 'Meach' Nance was tragically cut short in Indianapolis. On the evening of May 10th, Nance was at an apartment complex when he witnessed a loud argument between Michael Wilson and his pregnant girlfriend, Patrice Cushenberry.
According to testimony, Nance intervened verbally, calling out to Wilson, 'don't be swelling up on her.' Following this exchange, Nance and a few other young men approached Wilson and Cushenberry.
The situation quickly escalated, and in the ensuing confrontation, Demetris Nance was fatally shot. He passed away from the injuries he sustained.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Michael Wilson was arrested and charged with the murder of Demetris Nance. During his trial, Wilson claimed that he acted in self-defense. However, the jury found him guilty of murder. He was subsequently sentenced for the crime.
