In the early morning hours of Friday, July 29, 2022, a violent incident unfolded in Indianapolis, Indiana, claiming the life of 20-year-old Gregory Johnson. A Black male resident of the area, Johnson was discovered by law enforcement officers who had responded to a report of a person shot near the 3800 block of North High School Road, a location that houses a gas station on the city's northwest side.
Upon their arrival around 12:30 a.m., police found Johnson inside a sport utility vehicle, suffering from at least one apparent gunshot wound. He was in critical condition when first responders reached him, and he was urgently transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Johnson succumbed to his injuries two days later, passing away on Sunday, July 31, 2022. The Marion County Coroner’s Office formally identified him, and homicide detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
