In May of 2024, the disappearance of 35-year-old Brandon Perry of Indianapolis sparked a grim investigation that would soon point to a suspect within his own home. Perry, a male, was last seen alive on May 26. Concerns grew when his sister reported him missing three days later, after he failed to show up for work and had no contact with family or friends.
His trailer was discovered abandoned about three miles from his last known location, and his truck was found two days after that, but there was no sign of Brandon Perry.
The investigation quickly shifted from a missing person case to a homicide investigation when disturbing evidence was found at Perry's home. His sister discovered a significant amount of blood on the bottom of her brother's mattress. Investigators later found more blood on the basement stairs. Outside the home, a makeshift burn pit was located, containing Perry's charred driver's license and credit cards. It was also noted that one of the two family trash cans was missing.
Suspicion fell upon Brandon Perry's 17-year-old son, David Perry, who also lived in the home. It was revealed that David had not reported his father missing. The investigation uncovered that David allegedly sent text messages to another person on May 26, alluding to a conflict with his father. Surveillance footage also captured a male resembling David abandoning his father's truck. Further investigation showed that on the day his father went missing, David purchased a dolly, a gun safe, and other items from a local Walmart. His father's handgun, which David had claimed was missing, was found in the new safe inside David's car.
The most damning information reportedly came from David Perry's aunt, who told detectives that David had confessed to her that his father was in the White River inside a trash can, and that the lid 'wasn't going to open.' Based on this and other evidence, including cell phone location data and physical evidence, David Perry was arrested on June 1 and subsequently charged with murder and dangerous possession of a firearm. Despite the arrest and charges, the search for Brandon Perry's body is ongoing, with law enforcement, including the Indiana State Police Dive Team, focusing their efforts on the White River.
